Who I am
Hi, my name is Cedric. Alongside my work in IT, I teach at De Vechtclub on Monday evenings. I teach two classes. During the Technique class, I help participants further develop their technique and tactical awareness. I also teach an hour of bag work, with the goal of sending everyone home stronger, fitter, and feeling good. I recently started offering Parkinson's Boxing as personal training too. Using kickboxing and strength exercises, we work on improving reaction time, coordination, and balance. This helps participants stay active, independent, and mobile for as long as possible.
My kickboxing journey
My passion for martial arts started at a young age. At three, I stepped onto the judo mat for the first time. But I quickly discovered that kicks and punches appealed to me more. The movies of Bruce Lee and Jean-Claude Van Damme made a big impression on me back then. At four, I switched to taekwondo, a sport I enjoyed practicing for many years. I eventually earned my second-degree black belt. Around the age of twenty, I discovered MMA, and it immediately became a new passion. In 2006, I fully immersed myself in the world of MMA at R-Grip Amsterdam, while training weekly at various boxing and kickboxing gyms. When I got the chance to take over classes and lead the youth training sessions, I realized I wanted to do more than just train myself. Sharing knowledge and coaching others gave me an incredible amount of energy and fulfillment. When my gym had to close its doors during the pandemic, I was asked to join the Athletes' Council of the Combat Sports Authority and the Dutch Combat Sports Federation (NVB). Together, we explored ways to make kickboxing and MMA safer and more accessible in the Netherlands. Although I find this work valuable, I missed teaching. So when I got the chance to teach at The Kickboxing Society, I jumped at it.
Luckily, after the takeover, Remy and
Kev gave me the opportunity to keep teaching at De Vechtclub in Weesp. I hope to see you in class soon!
