Muay Thai Zaktraining
We punch, knee, kick, and elbow the heavy bag.
What's different about Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is Thai boxing. You already know the punches, kicks, and knees from our Kickboks Zaktraining. Here we add elbows, and you'll also notice the difference in your stance, guard, and rhythm.
You stand a little more upright and practice throwing a punch or kick, or checking a kick, straight from your guard. After every combination, you reset and find your balance. In this class, we focus more on jabs and push kicks: straight punches with your lead hand and kicks that create distance. A different rhythm, in other words, and at our club that means a different soundtrack too.
How do we do that on the bag?
You keep the bag at a distance with a jab or push kick, step in for a short combination with an elbow, then return to your guard. The trainer builds it up step by step. This teaches you how to play with distance, timing, and the movement of the bag.
You work in pairs: one person holds the bag while the other trains, then you switch. No need to bring a friend, you'll make one in class. Between rounds, we do strength and conditioning exercises, then finish with stretching. Beginners and advanced members train together, each at their own intensity.
Does this class include sparring?
No. We train on the bag, not on each other. Sparring is part of Kickboks Techniek, and it's optional there too.
Can I just switch to Muay Thai for a class?
Yes. If your membership includes this class, you can book it yourself in the app. You don't need to ask the trainer first, and you're not committing to anything afterward. You can choose different classes every week.
Not a member yet? Request your three(!) free trial classes below, and we'll plan your first one together. You can borrow gloves and shin guards. Bring workout clothes, water, and a towel. We train barefoot. Check the schedule to see when the class is held.
