Who I am
Hi, my name is Remy. I'm 42 years old, the proud father of a daughter who's 6, and the co-owner of De Vechtclub with Kevin. I also work as a freelance sound engineer. I'm originally from Amsterdam, but since late 2025 I've been happily living in Weesp.
After high school, my passion for drumming led me to study Sound Engineering. I've been drumming since I was twelve and later started teaching drums too. At 27, I decided to go back to school, this time at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. I earned my bachelor's degree in Social Work there.
At De Vechtclub
…I work a little more in front of the scenes than behind them. I teach around ten hours a week, but you'll find me at the club almost every day. Although I can be pretty shy by nature, that completely disappears the moment I start teaching.
We have an amazing group of members, who by now I see more as friends than members. The same goes for our trainers. I'm incredibly proud of every single one of them for wanting to be part of our club.
My kickboxing journey
I didn't start kickboxing until I was 22. I still remember cycling home along Nieuwezijds after taking a serious beating at the gym. Strangely enough, I'd never felt so zen. A few years later, I was walking around the city with more confidence than I knew what to do with.
Over the years, I trained at different gyms and learned something new at each one. When the pandemic hit, I'd been a father for just a month and suddenly found myself unemployed. Kickboxing and teaching were two things I was good at, and they were the most obvious way to start bringing in some money again.
A year later, I ended up at a gym where I also started teaching group classes. After my very first class there, I remember exactly what I thought: one day, this place will be mine.
Fast-forward six years, and here we are. Together with my buddy Kevin, who I met during my second class at that same gym, I'm now the proud owner of De Vechtclub.
