Boxing with Parkinson’s
At De Vechtclub in Weesp, you box one-on-one with a trainer who has studied Parkinson’s training. We adapt the exercises to what you can do: standing, seated, and at your pace.
Why boxing?
Boxing brings together coordination, balance, reaction time, strength, and rhythm. You throw combinations on the pads, catch and tap tennis balls to sharpen your reflexes, and work on your posture and footwork. Plus, it’s fun. That matters, because you’re more likely to stick with something you enjoy.
Research on boxing for people with Parkinson’s paints a mixed picture. A 2025 review describes possible benefits for balance and quality of life, among other things, but also calls for more well-designed research.¹ In a study comparing boxing with exercises focused on sensory perception, the second group showed greater improvement in the motor symptoms measured.² We see boxing as a fun way to stay active, with coaching that works for you.
How it works
You always train one-on-one: one trainer, one participant. With Parkinson’s, your balance can suddenly give way, so someone is right by your side at all times. And because no two people with Parkinson’s are the same, every session is tailored to you. One person may work on footwork and combinations while standing, while someone else trains seated on a plyo box and builds from there. Both are boxing. Both count.
Sessions are led by Cedric, who has studied Parkinson’s training and gains hands-on experience with it every week. He combines boxing technique with exercises for coordination, balance, and reaction time, from pad work to tennis ball drills.
Together, if you want
Your training is one-on-one, but you don’t have to go it alone. Once we have several participants, we’ll schedule sessions alongside each other and have coffee afterward. Sharing experiences with people who know exactly what you’re going through can be every bit as valuable as the training itself.
Let’s be clear
Boxing does not cure Parkinson’s. Our goal is to keep moving together: building strength and balance, practicing combinations, and enjoying exercise. Because the coaching is one-on-one, it is not covered by our regular memberships. The cost depends on what you need, and we’ll discuss it with you upfront, with no obligation.
Come meet us
Message or email us to set up a no-obligation introductory meeting. We’ll talk about what you want to work on and what kind of coaching suits you. Partners, family members, or healthcare providers who would like to observe first are welcome too.
