Who I am
Hi, I’m Jasper! Alongside my work as an entrepreneur at the BrainBoost education institute, I love teaching kickboxing at De Vechtclub on Wednesday nights. And when I’m not working or training, you’ll often find me onstage singing with my bands. Life certainly never gets boring!
At De Vechtclub
On Wednesday nights, I teach bag work, where I like to bring technique, endurance, and a solid challenge together. Of course, you’re going to sweat, but I think it’s just as important that you understand what you’re doing and why. After all, learning to punch and kick well is much more interesting than just hitting a bag as hard as you can.
I try to make sure my classes offer plenty of challenge at every level. Beginners get the space to build a solid technical foundation, while advanced members are challenged to keep refining their skills. The best part is seeing someone realize that a technique that seemed complicated at first has suddenly started to feel natural.
My kickboxing journey
I first got into martial arts as a kid, when I did judo for years and made it all the way to a blue-brown belt. Then came a pretty long break, until I discovered boxing around age 23 while I was a student. I started sparring and quickly became fascinated by the technical side of the sport. It turned out to be an incredibly fun challenge to learn how to fight not just harder or with more stamina, but smarter and with better technique.
About fourteen years later, boxing and kickboxing have never really left my life. For years, I trained an average of three or four times a week, including at Ettaki. There, I also did a lot of personal training with Youssef, who taught me the finer points of the sport. His sessions were strict, intense, and sometimes seriously grueling, but that’s exactly why I learned so much about technique, timing, and the importance of a solid foundation.
I actually got into teaching somewhat by accident. At Ettaki, there were times when a trainer was delayed or couldn’t make it on time for some other reason. Since I was always around anyway, I’d often be asked to take over the session. That’s how I discovered that I didn’t just enjoy getting better myself, I also loved helping others improve.
When I moved to Weesp, I found De Vechtclub. By now, I absolutely love teaching a few classes here myself. Not just because of the kickboxing, but also because I’m happy to support Remy and Kevin in their entrepreneurial adventure. As a business owner, I know how challenging it can be to build a great team, and how much difference the right people can ultimately make. My contribution may be modest, but I’m glad to do my small part for De Vechtclub this way.
Hope to see you on a Wednesday night soon! Then we’ll get right to work.
